About Great Places in North Carolina

Great Places in North Carolina is an awards program created in 2012 to highlight North Carolina’s Great Places and the communities and people that have created them. North Carolina is full of amazing places that make this state a wonderful place to live, attract new jobs and investment, and keep our communities thriving. Many people work hard to create, improve, and sustain these places, including planners, business leaders, and elected officials. This program provides the chance for everyone to celebrate together! Join us as we celebrate the great achievements of our communities.

FAQs:

Q: Are there any criteria for nominations?
A: Not really! Historic rehabilitation projects can be big or small. They are special places that have received an outpouring of community support.

Q: What happens after I nominate a historic rehabilitation project?
A: All nominations will be reviewed by a panel of experts from across the state, who will narrow it down to six elite finalists. Then, those finalists are announced on this site, and voting begins on February 9th. The Historic Rehabilitation Project with the most votes by 5pm on February 27th will be the People's Choice for Great Historic Rehabilitation Project, and will receive statewide recognition!

Q: How can I help my favorite Historic Rehabilitation Project be the 2014 People's Choice for Great Place?
A: Be sure to use photos that really capture the "essence" of your town. With just 100 words, be concise in your description of what makes the historic rehabilitation project great, highlighting any special features or efforts that have been made in the town.  If selected as a finalist, you'll have to hit the streets to spread the word and get folks voting!

Q: If I register, will I get junk mail?
A: No!  Your email is kept private and is only used for this contest.

Thanks for participating!
